From May 24th to 25th, The 8th Committee Conference of Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies，Diplomas and Degrees in Higher Education in Asia and the Pacific was held successfully in the Spring City of Kunming. The contracting states representatives from Mongolia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, China, Australia, India, Laos, the Philippines, Korea, Nepal, and the Vatican, the observer representatives and officials from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, and experts about 40 people attended the conference. The other officials who attended the conference included Yang Wei, Chief of the Office of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC) of China, Li Jun, Deputy Chief of the office of ADCSC of China, Tian Xiaogang, Secretary-General of Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, He Fusheng, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Yunnan Province, Homg Pinjie and Cao Heping, Vice Presidents of Yunnan Univeristy. Besides, Wang Lisheng, Deputy Director of CDGDC, led the heads of the Accreditation Department and the Evaluation Department to attend the conference. It was the first time that the Committee Conference of Regional Convention was held in China. It was sponsored by the Office of ADCSC and the Secretariat of Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and co-hosted by the Education Committee of Yunnan Province and Yunnan University.

On the opening ceremony of the conference, Yang Wei, Chairman of the 7th conference, delivered a speech, and He Fusheng, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Yunnan Province, made a welcome speech. Dr. Lee Hyun-Chong, Secretary-General of the Education Committee of Korea University was elected chairman of this conference. The contracting states representatives read out the reports on the implementation of the convention in their own countries respectively. In the conference, the issues on the ratification, implementation and emendation of the convention were discussed heatedly. The representatives and experts from some countries and regions also read out and discussed about the issues on "Quality Protection of Cross-national Education", "Experiences of Utilizing Information Technology in the Accreditation Area", "Approaches to Quality Assurance and Mutual Diploma Recognition", and "Standards and Procedures of Accrediting Overseas Diplomas", etc.. In the panel session of the conference, CDGDC delivered a report on the topic of "Strengthening Communication and Cooperation in the Evaluation of Higher Education, and Promoting Accreditation of Degrees and Diplomas in Asia and the Pacific", which caused strong repercussions.

During the conference, Wang Lisheng, Deputy Director of CDGDC, and his accompanying officials met with the representatives of such countries as may be concerned. The conference was rounded off with the adoption of relevant resolutions, and the next conference will be held in Korea in 2007.
