China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) is an administrative department directly under the Ministry of Education, operating under the joint leadership of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC), and possessing the independent qualification of legal entity.
CDGDC was established in 2003, evolving from National Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center founded in 1999.
Organization of CDGDC
CDGDC comprises 8 departments: the Administrative Office, the Finance Department, the Evaluation Department, the Examination Department, the Verification Department, the Information Department, the General Office and the Edit Department. Entrusted by MoE and ADCSC, it constructs and administrates "National Academic Degrees and Graduate Edcuation Data Center". It also has a consultative committee composed of the officials and experts from the Ministry of Education, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the National Development Planning Committee and the Ministry of Finance.
Meaning of the Logo
The overall structure of the logo of CDGDC resembles the shape of a mortarboard, which symbolizes the academic degrees. The red brim of the mortarboard in the shape of an open book symbolizes the graduate education. The three ribbons on the right side of the mortarboard symbolize the bachelor degrees, the master degrees and the doctorial degrees respectively.
The blue color of the logo stands for profoundness and wisdom, and the red color stands for youth and vitality.
Functions of CDGDC
To engage in scientific researches into academic degrees and graduate education, providing counseling for The Ministry of Education and The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in formulating policies concerned.
To undertake the task of evaluating and appraising the academic degrees and graduate education, entrusted by The Ministry of Education and The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. And when necessary, CDGDC has the authority to independently conduct the similar tasks entrusted by any social establishments.
To undertake the task of test paper setting and test administration for the two types of examinations: the national tests for the equivalently qualified master degree applicants, and the national entrance examinations for the professional master degree applicants in part-time study programs.
To engage in the researches into the degree equivalency between China and foreign countries, mainland China and its special regions Hongkong, Macao, and Taiwan, providing the counseling for reciprocal degree acknowledgement agreements in this area. Empowered by the government, CDGDC can sign cooperation agreements concerning degree and graduate education evaluation and acknowledgement with nongovernmental and unofficial organizations.
To provide services for degree and related materials accreditation, authentication and consulting.
To undertake the task of the construction and maintenance of the information systems for the national academic degree and graduate education and provide services in this area to the public.
To conduct nongovernmental international exchange and cooperation in academic degree and graduate education.
To manage the magazine China Postgraduates and undertake the editing, publishing and issuing affairs for the journal Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, entrusted by ADCSC.
To take other related responsibilities concerning academic degree and graduate education.
